Domus de Janas
The burial caves were excavated next to each other to form a necropolis, on the slopes where the living rock appeared. Although they are present throughout the Mediterranean, those of the island of Sardinia are distinguished by their careful architecture and their decoration, which gives a rough idea of life on the island five thousand years ago. One can find, for example, caves in the shape of a round hut with conical, albeit sloping roofs, and a rectangular room equipped with doors and windows. On the walls were often drawn magical symbols in relief, depicting stylized bull horns, spirals or other geometric designs.
